The Communication Section is responsible for presenting and promoting the UK and British Government policy in South Africa.

This is done in co-operation with other British organisations operating in South Africa – the British Council , UK Trade & Investment , the Department for International Development – South Africa (DFID-SA) and Visit Britain.

The Head of the Communications Section is the official spokesperson for the High Commission.

The Communication Section liaises with the South African and international media, issues press releases and arranges media interviews for visiting British Government Ministers. It can provide news and background material about British policies on national and international issues. Important announcements are carried on the High Commission website.

The Communication Section holds extensive sources of reference material on the United Kingdom and operates a Public Enquiry Line (012 421 7733). It can also provide a range of publications about different aspects of the United Kingdom. It can also loan Union flags to schools and community groups.

The Head of the Communication section is Gary Benham. He is assisted by Raziyah Johnston (Communication Officer – Cape Town), Isabel Potgieter (Deputy Head of Communication) Motsosi Moabi (Communication Officer and Website Editor) and Lethabo Lelaka (Communication Officer).
